“Theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do and die”

Major Geoffrey Vickers (Errol Flynn) is a British officer in India in 1853, caught up in the Great Game, the contest between the British and Russian empires for control of India and its borders. Michael Curtiz follows him through a run of betrayals and misfortunes, with Elsa Campbell (Olivia de Havilland) and his brother Perry (Patric Knowles) bound up in his troubles. All of it feeds a private grudge Vickers carries toward Balaclava Heights in October 1854.
