The Chase

Chuck Scott (Robert Cummings), a veteran who still sees things that aren't there, finds a lost wallet in 1946 and returns it to its owner, the violent mobster Eddie Roman (Steve Cochran). Eddie hires him as a chauffeur, which puts Chuck in the front seat beside Eddie's frightened wife, Lorna (Michèle Morgan). Arthur Ripley adapts Cornell Woolrich's novel as a story where a man's own shaky mind is the one witness he cannot trust.
