“People who know the meaning of "The China Syndrome" are scared... Soon you will know.”

Kimberly Wells (Jane Fonda) is a television reporter who wants out of the fluff segments and into real news. While filming a story on alternative energy, she and her cameraman Richard Adams (Michael Douglas) are at a nuclear power plant when an accident happens. James Bridges follows her as the people running the plant insist nothing happened, and the film leaves you with the question of who gets told when a place like this goes wrong.
