The City without Jews
Leo Strakosch (Johannes Riemann) is a Jewish man in the Republic of Utopia, engaged to the daughter of Counsellor Linder, when a ruined economy leads the government to blame its Jewish citizens and order them out of the country. Hans Karl Breslauer made this Austrian Expressionist film in 1924, adapting Hugo Bettauer's novel and renaming Vienna as Utopia. Leo is expelled, and he slips back across the border in secret, still bound to Lotte (Anny Miletty).
