The Cloud-Capped Star

In a refugee colony on the edge of Calcutta, Nita (Supriya Choudhury) lives with the family that fled East Pakistan after the Partition of 1947. She studies and works to keep the household going, while her father, her mother (Gita Dey) and her brothers take what she brings home and ask for more. Ritwik Ghatak builds the film from the sounds of the place, with a Bengali folk song and a whiplash crack that cuts across the quiet.
