The Clown

Every night at Circus Esperança, Benjamim (Selton Mello) paints on his face and plays Pangaré, the sidekick to his father Valdemar (Paulo José), who plays Puro Sangue. The crowds laugh, and Pangaré goes back to the trailer more tired and sadder each time. Mello, who also directed, films the troupe's small, worn-out world with a plain, patient eye.
