The Club

“In this club nobody plays by the rules...”

A football club pays a record sum for Geoff Hayward (John Howard), a gifted young player, and the dressing room cools toward him before he has run a lap. Bruce Beresford, adapting David Williamson's play, follows the club through a season of lost games and backroom dealing, with Laurie Holden (Jack Thompson) and Ted Parker (Graham Kennedy) pulling the strings. The newcomer and the old hands sit in the same room and cannot stand one another.
