The Color Purple

“A bold new take on the beloved classic.”

Celie (Fantasia Barrino) is a young Black woman in rural Georgia who has little say over her own life and has learned to carry her hardships quietly. Blitz Bazawule adapts the musical version of Alice Walker's novel across several decades, with Taraji P. Henson as the singer Shug Avery and Danielle Brooks as Sofia. Through all of it Celie holds to the bond with her sister and slowly finds a strength of her own.
