Someone is selling guns and whiskey to the Comanche, and the Texas Rangers cannot find the men behind the trade, a band known only as the Comancheros. Ranger Jake Cutter (John Wayne) arrests the gambler Paul Regret (Stuart Whitman), then ends up riding beside his own prisoner to get inside the gang. Curtiz keeps the story moving, and the two men cross the bare Texas ground with Cutter's hat pulled low against the sun.
