The Comedy

Swanson (Tim Heidecker) is an aging New Yorker with a beard, a boat, and a father's estate he will inherit but can't bring himself to care about. He fills his days with Van Arman (Eric Wareheim) and Ben (James Murphy), playing games of mock sincerity and needling the waitresses, managers and strangers nearby. Rick Alverson watches them drift, and the film's quiet question is what a man does with free time when nothing, not even cruelty, means anything to him.
