“They had nothing to lose, they risked it all.”

In Barrytown, a working-class corner of north Dublin, Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins) decides the neighborhood needs a soul band. He finds three singers (Angeline Ball, Maria Doyle Kennedy among them) practically on his doorstep, then a lead vocalist at a wedding and an aging trumpet player who answers his ad. Alan Parker fills the rehearsal rooms with kids who can barely play, and the band has to hold together long enough to be heard.
