The Competition

“If you're really in love... nothing's going to stand in your way”

A piano competition in 1980 will make a career for whoever wins it, and the finalists have gathered for the last rounds. Paul Dietrich (Richard Dreyfuss) is running out of years to enter, while Heidi Joan Schoonover (Amy Irving), a newcomer, may be the better pianist. Joel Oliansky puts the two of them in the same small circle of finalists, with Greta Vandemann (Lee Remick) pressing her student to win and the prize leaving Paul no second chance.
