The Perron family moves into a farmhouse where objects shift on their own and their daughter wakes with bruises she cannot explain. Paranormal investigators Ed Warren (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) arrive to document what is happening. James Wan shoots the farmhouse as a maze of shadows where anything could move in the next room, and the dread builds without needing to show everything at once.
