The Constant Nymph

(1943)Directed by Edmund Goulding112 minDrama, Romance
“He Tried to Divide His Heart and Broke Theirs”

Tessa Sanger (Joan Fontaine) is an adolescent who wants nothing more than the attention of Lewis Dodd (Charles Boyer), the promising composer her father has mentored. When her father dies, her uncle Charles Creighton (Charles Coburn) arrives with his grown daughter Florence (Alexis Smith), and Lewis begins courting her. Edmund Goulding builds the story on the gap between a girl's devotion and a man's affection, which are not the same thing.
