A man has spent twenty years locked away for delivering a letter he never understood, and the only people who know why are the ones who put him there. Edmond Dantès (Robert Donat) gets out and returns as the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo, with Danglars (Raymond Walburn) and Mondego (Sidney Blackmer) still to answer to. Rowland V. Lee follows Dantès through that long wait for payment, and the question is how much of the sailor is left.
