The Courtyard of the Ballads

Evaristo (Miguel Guilherme) and Narciso (César Mourão) share a courtyard in old Lisbon with their neighbours, among them Rosa (Dânia Neto), Amália (Sara Matos) and Carlos (Rui Unas). Leonel Vieira updates the Portuguese classic, setting the neighbours' wants, small joys and sorrows side by side. Everyone here is close enough to hear everyone else, and the film treats that closeness as the thing worth having.
