The Coward

Amitabha Roy (Soumitra Chatterjee), a Calcutta scriptwriter, wants only to finish his drive through the countryside with enough material for his next film. His car breaks down in a small town, and the tea planter Bimal Gupta (Haradhan Bandyopadhyay) offers him a bed for the night. Satyajit Ray makes the evening a quiet one, and Amitabha accepts out of necessity, though what the stay stirs in him costs more than he planned.
