“Who benefits from the crime?”

In 1930s Paris, Madeleine Verdier (Nadia Tereszkiewicz) is a pretty, penniless actress with no talent, and she is accused of killing a famous producer. Her best friend Pauline Mauléon (Rebecca Marder), an unemployed lawyer, builds a defense of self-defense and takes the case to Judge Rabusset (Fabrice Luchini). François Ozon fills the courtroom with spectators and the headlines with her name, and Madeleine steps out of it as a star.
