The Crime of Father Amaro
“A story of love and desire.”
The crime in the title is named before it happens, and the film leaves a young priest to carry that weight from his first scene. Padre Amaro (Jorge Corrula) takes his post and falls in love with Amélia (Soraia Chaves), a beautiful and troubled woman, while Cónego Francisco Dias (Nicolau Breyner) looks on. Carlos Coelho da Silva adapts Eça de Queirós's 1875 novel, the book that caused such controversy when it first appeared.
