Why would the district attorney who sent a young man to prison hire him as his driver six years later? Mark Brady (Walter Huston) puts Robert Graham (Phillips Holmes) away for ten years over a killing committed drunk, then becomes the warden of the same prison and offers him the job. Howard Hawks keeps the cellblocks cramped and the men close together, so Ned Galloway (Boris Karloff) is never far from Robert's shoulder.
