The Crooked Way

(1949)Directed by Robert Florey90 minCrime, Drama, Thriller
“He's got a date ...with DEATH!”

Eddie Rice (John Payne) steps off the train in Los Angeles, a war veteran fresh from a San Francisco hospital, with no memory of who he was before the injury. He goes looking for his past and finds a name, Eddie Riccardi, and a criminal record that other people seem to know better than he does. Robert Florey and cinematographer John Alton shoot him in black and white, a man with no past walking through the shadows of that city.
