“...play it at your own risk.”

Northern Ireland, early 1990s: the IRA has taken a British soldier, Jody (Forest Whitaker), and left Fergus (Stephen Rea) to guard him. Neil Jordan lets the two men talk, and the talk makes Fergus a poor jailer, because Jody asks him to look up his girlfriend Dil (Jaye Davidson) in London. Fergus crosses the Irish Sea with Jude (Miranda Richardson) and Maguire (Adrian Dunbar) still after him, a quiet man who keeps a promise and cannot say what it will cost.
