“Save your lipstick, girls, he plays for keeps.”

Bradford Galt (Mark Stevens) is an ex-con turned private investigator who starts to notice the same man behind him on the street, and then begins to believe someone wants him dead. His secretary Kathleen Stewart (Lucille Ball) helps him dig for answers, and Henry Hathaway keeps them moving through a city that never lets either of them feel safe. Kathleen sits at her desk with the door open, listening to every step in the hall.
