John Mason (John Wayne) is a young man whose father, Dad Mason (Joseph De Grasse), has just been killed, and he is wounded in the same attack. Alice Gordon (Marion Burns) nurses him back to health, and he falls for her, though his friend Ben McClure (Reed Howes) already means to marry her. Robert N. Bradbury keeps John on horseback, the plain, wounded man in the saddle, hunting his father's killer.
