Sampo

Lemminkäinen (Andris Ošiņš) wants the fair Annikki for his wife, and to win her he has to face Louhi (Anna Orochko), the witch of the north. Louhi seizes Annikki to force her brother, the smith Ilmarinen (Ivan Voronov), to forge a Sampo, a device that makes salt, grain and gold. Aleksandr Ptushko's story ends in a frozen world, the sun taken from the sky and the land lying dark under the ice.
