The Devil Is a Woman

(1935)Directed by Josef von Sternberg80 minComedy, Drama, Romance, History
“Kiss me .. and I'll break your heart!”

Concha Perez (Marlene Dietrich) is the kind of beauty that ruins men in a Spanish carnival town in the early 1900s, and she knows it. Antonio Galvan (Cesar Romero), an exiled republican back from Paris, flirts with her and agrees to meet later, then hears from his old friend Pasqualito (Lionel Atwill) how she wrecked his life and promises to stay away. Josef von Sternberg also shot the film, filling the frame with streamers, lace and shadow.
