London in 1930, and Willie Hale (Ronald Colman) has come home penniless again, the family house his only fallback. His father, Lord Leland Hale (Frederick Kerr), is none too pleased, but Willie talks his way into staying and turns his attention to Dorothy Hope (Loretta Young). Her father is big in linoleum, she was nearly engaged to a Russian aristocrat, and George Fitzmaurice's film is about what charm is worth against money.
