Hannah Stern (Kirsten Dunst) is an American teenager who finds her family's faith and customs tiresome, and she would rather be anywhere than at the table with her relatives. A supernatural experience throws her back to a Nazi death camp in 1941, where Donna Deitch puts her beside Rivkah (Brittany Murphy), a girl who is also held captive. The two cling to each other through each brutal day, and the only thing they have to protect is the bond itself.
