The Dig

“Nothing stays lost forever.”

Basil Brown (Ralph Fiennes) is a self-taught excavator who knows soil better than any degree-holder, and in 1939 he takes a job digging the burial mounds on Edith Pretty's estate in Suffolk. Edith (Carey Mulligan), a widow in failing health, hired him because she believes the mounds hide a burial. Simon Stone follows Basil through the long days of trowel and sieve, a man whose skill the experts keep trying to overlook.
