The Dirty Dozen

(1967)Directed by Robert Aldrich149 minAction, Adventure, War
“Train them! Excite them! Arm them!...Then turn them loose on the Nazis!”

Twelve American soldiers, most of them waiting on death sentences for violent crimes, are offered a deal in 1944: train as commandos and raid a château full of Nazi officers, and their sentences may be commuted. Robert Aldrich puts them under Maj. John Reisman (Lee Marvin), who has to turn a mess of convicts into a unit before the Normandy landings. Reisman answers to Maj. Gen. Worden (Ernest Borgnine), and neither man trusts the other.
