Jerome Littlefield (Jerry Lewis) takes a job as an orderly at the Whitestone Sanitarium, which is a poor fit for a man who faints at the sight of blood. He always wanted to be a doctor, and now he spends his shifts wheeling patients down the halls while Dr. Jean Howard (Glenda Farrell) runs the wards. Frank Tashlin builds the gags around Jerome's good intentions, and Jerome keeps trying to help anyway.
