The Distinguished Gentleman

(1992)Directed by Jonathan Lynn112 min · RComedy
“From con man to congressman.”

Thomas Jefferson Johnson (Eddie Murphy) is a small-time con man in Florida who wants a bigger room to work in, and he finds it when the longtime Congressman from his district dies. They share a last name, so he runs for the seat and wins, heading to Washington where lobbyists keep the money moving. Jonathan Lynn puts him across from Dick Dodge (Lane Smith), a veteran of that world, and Celia Kirby (Victoria Rowell), who sees the place differently than he does.
