The Doctor and the Devils

“A man of medicine... A pair of murderers... An unholy alliance.”

Doctor Thomas Rock (Timothy Dalton) wants to understand how the human body works, and he cannot learn it without corpses. In Victorian England he pays graverobbers, among them Robert Fallon (Jonathan Pryce), to bring him bodies for his anatomy lessons. Freddie Francis sets the story on the true Burke and Hare killings, and the doctor's need and the thieves' appetite pull the two sides closer than either will admit.
