Roy Tucker (Gene Hackman) is a Vietnam veteran with a sharpshooter's eye, serving a long sentence in prison. A stranger turns up with an offer: Tucker walks free if he agrees to carry out one dangerous assignment. Stanley Kramer shoots the thriller in the grainy, hurried manner of its decade, keeping Tucker's choice close and the dread close behind it.
