“Power built an empire. Passion destroyed it.”

Don Angelo DiMorra (Anthony Quinn), head of a Mafia family, wants the man who killed his mistress, and he wants it settled with blood. The hunt pulls in Tony Fargo (Frederic Forrest) and Frank Regalbuto (Robert Forster), and a gang war breaks out soon after it begins. Richard Fleischer shoots the 1973 underworld in plain, grainy light, keeping the violence close and unadorned.
