The Driver

“To break the driver, the cop was willing to break the law.”

The Driver (Ryan O'Neal) takes jobs as a getaway man and keeps his record clean through sheer skill behind the wheel. Bruce Dern's Detective wants him badly enough to offer a gang pardons if they help set the Driver up in a staged robbery. Walter Hill gives every character a title instead of a name, and what binds them all is the job, since none of them has anything else to hold onto.
