The Duellists

(1977)Directed by Ridley Scott100 min · PGDrama, War
“Fencing is a science. Loving is a passion. Duelling is an obsession.”

In 1800, with Napoleon rising, a lieutenant named Armand d'Hubert (Keith Carradine) is sent to bring his fellow officer Gabriel Feraud (Harvey Keitel) to heel, and Feraud takes it as an insult. A challenge follows, then another, scattered across more than a decade of campaigns, including the retreat from Russia. Ridley Scott's first film gives us d'Hubert, a man who never asked for any of it, and cannot make Feraud stop.
