The Dust of Time

(2008)Directed by Theo Angelopoulos128 minDrama

A (Willem Dafoe) is a grizzled Greek-American filmmaker who sets out to shoot a movie about his parents. His film follows his mother's long, painful effort to reunite with his father, a musician, and it spans more than half of the twentieth century. Theo Angelopoulos cast Bruno Ganz and Irène Jacob among those who pass through it, and the picture ends on A, still working, still looking at the past he is trying to put on film.
