The Edge of the World

Peter Manson (John Laurie) is a crofter on a remote Scottish island whose people are leaving for the mainland, and he will not go with them. Michael Powell, in his first major film, based the story on the evacuation of St Kilda, and he shot it with his cast far from any town. Peter's daughter Ruth (Belle Chrystall) stays loyal to a place the others have given up on, and the film leaves her on the edge of the island.
