The Egyptian

(1954)Directed by Michael Curtiz139 minHistory, Drama
“To Nefer, shameless temptress of Babylon, he surrendered his parents' hope of immortality!”

Sinuhe (Edmund Purdom) is a poor orphan in eighteenth-dynasty Egypt who trains as a physician and rises fast enough to enter the service of the new Pharaoh, together with his friend Horemheb (Victor Mature). Michael Curtiz fills the CinemaScope frame with court intrigue and bright color, and Sinuhe is pulled in among the people who rule. Through it all he is after the answers to the questions he has carried since the day he was found.
