Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) is an orphaned teenager who sets off across the country with a mysterious robot, hoping to find the brother she lost long ago. Along the way she falls in with Keats (Chris Pratt), a smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick, voiced by Jason Alexander. The Russo brothers build the trip around a single plain idea: you go looking for family, and the people who help you get there start to become it.
