The Element of Crime

Young girls keep turning up dead, and a serial killer has the police stumped. Fisher (Michael Elphick), a retired detective, takes one last case and goes to Osborne (Esmond Knight), a once-respected criminologist whose method asks the investigator to feel his way into the killer's mind. Von Trier's first feature follows Fisher as he practices it, and the longer he does, the less he can tell where the killer ends and he begins.
