The Emigrants

“Driven by hope. Bound by love.”

Karl-Oskar (Gustaf Skarsgård) and Kristina (Lisa Carlehed) farm poor ground in Sweden in 1849 and have decided to leave it for America, where they hope their children will eat better than they do. Erik Poppe, adapting Vilhelm Moberg's novel, follows the family as they weigh the danger of the crossing against the life they already know. Kristina holds her children close, her hands rough from work, and looks at the only land she has ever known.
