The Emperor Waltz

(1948)Directed by Billy Wilder106 minRomance, Comedy, Music
“Bing hits the high notes! Joan hits the love notes! You'll hit a happy note... in this king-sized muscial wonder!”

Virgil Smith (Bing Crosby) arrives in turn-of-the-century Austria with a case of gramophones and one aim: to get Emperor Franz Joseph to buy one, so the whole country will follow. Billy Wilder sends him up against palace protocol and the Emperor's own household. Virgil carries his gramophone into the Emperor's Austria, a salesman's brash American cheer set against the stiff formality of the court.
