“In everyone's life there's that one person who makes all the difference.”

A new boy, Sedgewick Bell (Emile Hirsch), walks into the Classics classroom at St. Benedict's Academy and upends the order William Hundert (Kevin Kline) has kept there for years. Michael Hoffman follows the fierce contest between teacher and student as it turns into a close bond, with Hundert's principles and his hold on a boy who tests them both. What Hundert believes he has taught will still be with him a quarter of a century later.
