In 1996, right after the publication of his epic novel Infinite Jest, David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel) lets a Rolling Stone reporter follow him around for five days. David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) arrives with a tape recorder and a stack of questions, and James Ponsoldt keeps the two men mostly in cars and kitchens, talking. Wallace sits in his bandanna, a dog at his feet, the tape still turning.
