The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain

(1995)Directed by Christopher Monger91 min · PGDrama, Comedy, Romance
“A romantic comedy about a town that wouldn't give up. A man who couldn't get out. And the mountain that brought them together.”

Reginald Anson (Hugh Grant), an English cartographer, climbs into the Welsh village of Ffynnon Garw with a verdict: the mountain they are proud of measures too short and is only a hill. The villagers, among them Morgan the Goat (Colm Meaney) and the innkeeper Betty (Tara Fitzgerald), take the news as an insult and set about changing it. Christopher Monger's story rests on a plain idea, that a place belongs to the people who decide it matters.
