Petro (Boris Khmelnitsky) is a farmhand in a poor village, and he wants to marry Pidorka (Larysa Kadochnykova), but her stern father turns him away. Then the demon Basavriuk makes him an offer, a way to fortune if Petro will commit a crime. Yurii Illienko tells it as a long-ago folk tale where the price of wanting someone is set before any bargain is struck.
