The Eyes of the Mummy

Ma (Pola Negri) wants out of the tomb where Radu (Emil Jannings) keeps her, lending her eyes to a fake mummy from inside an empty sarcophagus while British tourists pay for the scare. Ernst Lubitsch brings her adventurer Albert Wendland (Harry Liedtke) just as the swindle is running. When Radu follows the pair abroad for revenge, the story comes down to Ma's stare, held wide and steady between the sarcophagus and the world outside it.
