The Face Behind the Mask

Janos Szabo (Peter Lorre) steps off the boat from Hungary as a watchmaker full of hope, and a hotel fire leaves his face scarred beyond recognition. Shut out of honest work, he turns to crime, and a blind woman, Helen Williams (Evelyn Keyes), enters his life. Robert Florey films it as a B-picture noir, with Lorre's soft voice and gentle manner set against a hard city.
